George Curtis Holland

November 25, 1928 — June 13, 2017

George Curtis Holland, age 88 peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at UT Medical Center. George was born in Spartanburg, SC on November 25, 1928 to Rev. C.P. Holland and Cleo (Hawkins) Holland; Step mother Edna (Lacky) Holland. George served in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1950. He then worked for Alcoa before and after going to the Navy for 12 years. Then he worked for Tennessee Highway Patrol as a State Trooper for 25 years. While serving in Roane County from 1972 to 1978 he was a Sergeant. Eighteen of the years he was on the Riot Squad retiring in 1982. He worked as security guard several years after retiring as a Trooper. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, talking on his ham radio, and performing magic. He was a Shriner for 50 years with Providence Lodge. George was a member of Monte Vista Baptist Church. Preceded in death by: Brothers, Thomas & Roy Holland; Sisters, Ellen Bishop, Bessie Fowler, and Ruth Evans. Survivors include: Wife of 66 years, Jodia Ellen Lee Holland; Daughters and Sons-in-law, Jan Clark Gregory (Larry) of Mt. Juliet, Conni Trent (Steve) of Maryville, and Jeffee Gourley (Jim) of Walland; Grandchildren, Kerrynn Birchfield (Brian), Jina Holtzclaw (Donnie); Great-Grandchildren Kylee and Kyler Birchfield; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Smith West Chapel. Funeral service will be at 7:00 PM.
