Betty Dew Moody

Betty Moody, born Mary Elizabeth Dew, 95, of Maryville, entered heaven, February 28, 2018, at her home in Maryville surrounded by her family. She was born September 5, 1922 in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee to Rev. Joe and Etta Jennings Dew. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Ray H. Moody, her parents, five brothers, two sisters, and grandson, James Moody. She is survived by her children Jim Moody and wife Jane of Johnson City, Tennessee; Mary Dew Moody of Maryville; and Beth Knicely and husband Michael of Fort Payne, Alabama; grandchildren Jennifer Larsen of Johnson City, Anna Knicely and John Michael Knicely of Fort Payne; and great-granddaughter Audrey Larsen of Johnson City; sister, Martha Childress of Maryville; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Betty was raised in the Holston Conference of the Methodist Church, living in Copperhill, Inskip, Lenoir City, Russellville, TN, and Salem Virginia. She graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College in 1942, and married Ray in 1945. They made their home in Athens, Tennessee and raised their family there. Their home was always filled with love and hospitality for family and friends. Betty was a long-time member of Keith Memorial UMC in Athens. She was active over 60 years in the adult choir, UMW, Adult Fellowship, and other ministries. She was a devoted follower of Christ who especially loved working with children and visiting shut-ins. After moving to Maryville, she joined Fairview UMC, where she was active in the Wesley Sunday School Class, The Quilting Circle and Keenagers. The memorial service for Betty will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, at Fairview UMC in Maryville, Rev. Mickey Rainwater and Rev. Stella Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends from1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble for interment on Sunday, March 4 at 1:00 at Bell’s Campground Cemetery, Powell, TN.
